Following the merger of several institutions this university owned by the Arcada Foundation was established in 1996 and occupies a site about 4km north of Helsinki city centre. It is close to Arabia beach and in winter an ice-skating facility. It offers three Bachelor degree courses in English: International Business Materials Processing Technology and Nursing (Swedish or Finnish language skills required). Helsinki is on a peninsula on the Gulf of Finland. It is home to the Parliament and national institutions and the ornate Uspenski Cathedral overlooks the harbour. The city boasts the most art nouveau buildings in Northern Europe. International air links are very good.
