This arts university consists of six schools which include the Music Conservatoire and the Academy of Theatre and Dance both of which offer bachelor courses in English. Founded in 1884 the conservatoire has close links with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra (RCO). It offers courses in classical music, early music, jazz and pop music. In 2008 it moved into a new building with excellent facilities. The Academy for Theatre and Dance is situated in the heart of the city. It offers a number of bachelor courses which are taught in English – modern dance theatre, ballet, contemporary dance and choreography. Amsterdam is a hub for business, tourism and culture with its beautiful canalside houses, art galleries, historic buildings, museums, theatres and concert halls, cafes and restaurants. It is said that there are more bikes than permanent residents. Amsterdam has excellent international transport links both air, road and rail.
