Acadia University

Overview

This predominantly undergraduate institution has its roots in 1838 and is thus one of Canada’s oldest liberal arts universities. It offers a small number of Honours degrees. Acadia takes its name from the original French settlers and indigenous people, who called this province Acadie, which probably comes from a Miqmac word meaning ‘land of plenty’. The Annapolis Valley is an area of rolling hills, vineyards, rich farmland and woodland trails. Wolfsville, in north western Nova Scotia (the far eastern corner of Canada) is a small college town on the shores of the Minas Basin in the Bay of Fundy, which has the world’s highest tides. It is about just over an hour’s drive (90km) north of Halifax with its international airport.
