University of Northern British Columbia

Overview

Founded in 1990 NBC has been consistently ranked as one of Canada’s best small universities by Maclean’s Magazines and is proud of its status as Canada’s green university. It has won prizes for environmental initiatives. It offers a limited number of bachelor programs, including in Health Sciences and Nursing. The main campus is in Prince George, which was called Lheidli T’ Enneh in First Nations times and means ‘people of the confluence’. It is where the Nechako and Fraser Rivers converge and at the crossroads of Highways 16 and 97. Because of its latitude it is a member of the University of the Arctic and this, the largest city in Northern British Columbia, provides both cultural and sporting opportunities. Prince George is 787km north of Vancouver, 1 hour 10 minutes by air and 11 hours by road.
