The Leeds School of Medicine was founded in 1831 and the redbrick university, situated in the centre of Leeds, received its Royal Charter in 1904. It was one of the founding members of the Russell Group. In 2017 The Sunday Times named Leeds University of the Year. It has always been a teaching and research university- this is where X-ray crystallography was developed. it boasts some of the best computing facilities in the world and has a Specialist Language Centre which offers languages for all. There is a wide range of undergraduate courses. Leeds is a vibrant and friendly city in West Yorkshire in the north of England. It is home to Opera North and its shopping area is famous for the beautiful Victorian Arcades and its market. Leeds has excellent road, rail and air links.
