Granted its Royal Charter in 1966 Bath is a modern campus university in an historic city. Situated on the south-east hilltop edge of the city there are good bus links to the city centre with its Roman Baths and the famous Royal Crescent designed by John Wood. In 2017 the Architecture course is ranked 1st in the Complete University Guide. Two-thirds of student undertake a work placement during their studies and the university has introduced The Bath Award, which accredits skills of students engaged in all types of extra-curricular activity. In 2017 the university will host the British Modern Pentathlon Championships. Bath is in southwest England about 184km west of London to where there are good road and rail links.
