KPU was established in 1981 and was granted degree awarding status in 1995. It takes its name from Kwantlen First Nation and it means ‘tireless runner’. KPU is the only polytechnic university in the province and offers applied courses, which combine hands on learning with undergraduate research. Courses (certificate, diploma and degree) range from Business to Horticulture and much more. The four campuses are in the southwestern area of Vancouver Metro (Greater Vancouver). Vancouver with its great cultural diversity was settled by the ancestors of the First Nations people 10,000 years ago; Europeans arrived in the late 18th century. Situated on the southwest coast of the Pacific Ocean close to the border with the USA this densely populated city boasts forests, mountains and ocean. Vancouverites can ski in the morning and be on the beach in the afternoon. It has excellent transport links.
