Founded in 1925 this institution has undergone many changes. Granted the authority to offer bachelor degrees in 1995, it moved to its state of the art campus on the False Creek Flats in 2015. The university is named after the renowned painter and writer, Emily Carr (1871-1945). Undergraduate degrees in Design, Fine Arts and Media Arts are offered. The campus is within walking distance of the centre of Vancouver. A ferry for pedestrians and major roads link the False Creek Flats to the heart of the city. Vancouver with its great cultural diversity was settled by the ancestors of the First Nations people 10,000 years ago; Europeans arrived in the late 18th century. Situated on the southwest coast of the Pacific Ocean close to the border with the USA, this densely populated city boasts forests, mountains and ocean. Vancouverites can ski in the morning and be on the beach in the afternoon. It has excellent transport links.
