Named after the 13th century scientist, philosopher, educator and Bishop of Lincoln the university is situated in the small medieval city of Lincoln close to the cathedral and the old Roman city. Lincoln lies in the rural East of England and has good rail links. It is a small city and students make up a significant proportion of the population. The college was founded in 1862 as a teacher training college and still feels it is an expert in education. In the national Student Survey 2016 the university was ranked high for student satisfaction.
