Psychology is one of the most popular degree subjects taken by students in the UK. It investigates the workings of the human mind and seeks to understand the nature and causes of individual and group behaviour in all aspects of life. It explores psychological explanations of the way people respond to their environment and changes within it, and how environments shape psychological aspects of individual identity, such as our sense of selfhood, attitudes and beliefs. In the context of a social psychological understanding of human behaviour, this programme explores the study of the human mind and behaviour in the context of the immediate social world. It provides an opportunity for students to study complex debates about the human mind, development, and interaction in a way that is underpinned by the principles of Critical Psychology. The programme stresses the importance of understanding developments within the discipline by locating them in social and historical contexts.
