This new one-year qualification is a vocational programme which aims to equip you with the knowledge, research skills and contextualised understanding of healthcare practice theory, practice, trends and developments within the UK and framed by a global context. This programme is highly practical and you will experience our state-of-the-art simulation rooms which are equipped with sector specific equipment used in practice. You will explore a range of modules mapped closely to the requirements and needs of our sector. Applied Health Sciences will allow you to explore the theoretical models of life course development including the sociological and psychological influences of health and illness. Assessment and Clinical Skills in Health Care will introduce you to the process of clinical assessments and clinical skills used within healthcare as part of the client care journey. The module will introduce different forms of clinical assessments enabling you to gain awareness and analyse their purpose. As part of our work ready guarantee you will develop vital vocational skills on your placement and apply your knowledge to a real working environment within health care. Our excellent work placement opportunities give you the knowledge and practical experience employers are looking for. You are advised to complete 160 hours’ work placement within the field of health care. We give students on this programme the opportunity to seek their own placement, which is relevant to the sector and their career goals. You will be supported by our dedicated placement team to find a placement. You could also use your current employment (if relevant to the sector) to count towards your placement hours. Anyone with a real desire to work in the health sector, or who may already be working in the health sector and wishes to progress either to an enhanced role or enter the health profession. Alongside enhancing your practical based skills, you will gain an enhanced understanding of how academic and vocational work informs your practice. Academic progression is available through the second year of the Foundation Degree in Healthcare Practice and then the one-year BSc (Hons) Public Health (Top-up). Students can gain employment as health care assistants within a variety of settings or can undertake further study in order to undertake a professional role within healthcare such as Nursing or Midwifery.
