Surrey is one of the UK's leading universities for electrical and electronic engineering, with our courses ranked 3rd in the Guardian University Guide 2019 and top ten in The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2018.
Our BEng Electronic Engineering with Computer Systems course is designed to cross the boundaries between hardware electronics, software and computer programming and architectures, and machine learning, preparing you for an exciting career in the information technology and computing industries, and with firmware applications such as the internet of things (IoT).
On this course you will have opportunities to apply theory to real engineering problems and technologies, combining professional engineering skills with scientific research methods.
We will train you in electronics, computer systems, computer vision and graphics, computer algorithms and architectures, artificial intelligence, big data and machine learning.
Having built a core knowledge in electronics and computing, you’ll take modules in a range of advanced topics such as C++ and object-oriented design, digital signal processing and artificial intelligence.
Through project work, you will get the chance to work with academics from our research centres and use the latest computer software and facilities.
We’re always looking to make it easier to access the education we offer, so we have launched the option of taking a degree with a foundation year.
A foundation year is an extra year of study at the start of your course that leads in to a full degree programme. It’s a great option if:
• You don’t have the grades for a full degree course • You have non-traditional qualifications or experience • You’re starting university after some time away from education • You’re looking for more support during the transition into university study.
During a foundation year you’ll learn about your chosen subject, develop your study skills and get used to university life. On successful completion of your foundation year, you’ll be ready to progress to the first year of your degree course.
As a foundation year student, you’ll be a full student of the University and part of our community. You’ll have access to all our campus facilities and support.
