Chemical Engineering

University of Greenwich

UCAS Course code H801

Overview

As the pressing needs of the world gradually shift toward the sustainable supply of energy and raw materials, preservation of natural resources and the environment, and targeted delivery of services and products, new opportunities arise for chemical engineers.

This degree programme offers students a range of industrial chemical manufacturing and processing technologies with the inclusion of industrial planning, powder handling and storage, safety and social impact considerations. Process safety, risk and safety tools will be a theme that infuses the whole degree from start to finish.

We offer exchange programmes for undergraduate students that give the opportunity to study and live abroad at a partner university and also opportunities for additional training at industrial facilities.

Academic and industry experts will cover a wide range of subject areas relevant to cutting-edge research, new technologies, and emerging growth areas in chemical engineering. Subject areas covered include: engineering science and fundamentals, separation, particle technology, catalysis and reaction engineering, management, sustainability and process design, pharmaceutical discovery and development, food and beverage and bioengineering.

The first students from Chemical Engineering at the University of Greenwich will graduate in 2020. The IChemE can only accredit programmes once the first cohort of students has graduated. University of Greenwich intends to seek accreditation by the IChemE at the earliest possible date after the first graduation.

We have been in consultation with the IChemE during design and development of the degree programme and are working towards a successful application for accreditation. If so this could be backdated to include all graduations from the start of the programme delivery. It is anticipated that this MEng degree programme will be accredited by the IChemE as fully satisfying the educational base for a Chartered Engineer (CEng). This degree programme is four years long in full-time mode.
