Overview

Digital media professionals work in organisations and institutions in every sector and industry with a variety of job roles such as social media marketing manager or digital analyst. This course is one of a new suite of marketing communication degrees introduced to keep pace with the ever-evolving marketing industry and, as such, has a particular focus on contemporary and cutting-edge digital media practices and communications such as Facebook, Twitter, blogs, mobile apps in order to enhance your future career prospects, as well as the context in which it takes place. We aim to produce visionary digital marketing professionals who are critical of existing practice and innovative, strategic, and creative in your own practice.

Employers are increasingly looking for broad knowledge with specific expertise in one aspect of the marketing mix which is why we give our marketing communication students the flexibility to redefine your specialism in the first year. You won't need to feel anxious that you are committing to a specialism without an opportunity to test your commitment as you develop your industry knowledge and particular skills. As part of your studies, you will also be given support to undertake the Institute of Direct and Digital Marketing (IDM) Certificate in year two, an industry recognised qualification that will enhance your employability for both placement and graduate roles.

Our compulsory placement year, unique amongst marketing communication courses in the UK, reflects our commitment to ensuring that students acquire the practical skills and relevant, real-world perspective seen as invaluable by employers. You'll gain the chance to make great career contacts and bolster your blossoming resume. In year four you’ll be challenged by critically investigating the rise and impact of digital marketing and complete a dissertation, as well as building your own curriculum as you select units to suit your interests and, ultimately, your career aspirations.
