Animal Science

Royal Agricultural University, Cirencester

UCAS Course code AS1C

Aimed at students with a keen interest in animal science, this course builds on the strengths of the developing partnership between the Royal Agricultural University and Cirencester College. It has a strong science and technology focus and provides in-depth laboratory training in animal science coupled with practical animal handling and husbandry skills – all underpinned by a strong theoretical core of knowledge relevant to a range of animal species and animal business contexts.

All students will undertake periods of commercial work-based learning throughout the programme and will be encouraged to develop innovation and entrepreneurial skills relevant to the industry sector they are working in. Students will also be able to tailor the focus of the programme towards either domestic animals, exotic species or production farm animals, such that individual career goals and aspirations can be accommodated.

This programme will be delivered through a mixture of lectures, seminars, laboratory classes and practical animal handdling classes at both the RAU and Cirencester College campuses. A period of practical work-based learning will feature at both level 4 and level 5, enabling students to apply theoretical learning to real-life practical situations in a range of different commercial businesses.
